We’ve got a really uniquely engineered product, so a lot of engineers get involved in the sales process. They have to understand the customer’s needs so they can develop a solution and communicate that solution in a way that makes the customer say ‘Yes, we’d love to have you make that for us.’ Now, our engineers are really eager to solve problems, but if you offer solutions too early it can be just as bad as coming up with a wrong solution. People tend to remember the first solution they hear, so knowing when to talk and when not to is really important. There’s engineering, purchasing, production, the operations people—everybody here deals with customers at some level—so everybody here gets training.
